Student Body

Located among the galleries and studios of Chicago's vibrant River North neighborhood, Marwen provides young people with a centrally located, creative environment where they can gather and make art. This accessibility is integral to the success of our programs—here, students interact with a spectrum of personalities, perspectives, and ideas that they likely would not have encountered by remaining in their own neighborhoods. Each year, Marwen students come to us from more than 230 schools and 59 zip codes. Our student body is: 34% Latino/a, 29% African-American, 17% Caucasian, 6% Asian/Pacific Islander, and 14% multi-ethnic. Nearly 20% of our students’ families have immigrated to the United States within the past five years, and 22 different languages are spoken in their homes.
