In this course you’ll experiment with a variety of materials and techniques using watercolor and mixed media while including the human figure in your landscape compositions. Your final project will incorporate multiple types of art making inside of one piece!

Are you interested in oil painting? If you answered “yes” to this question, then this course is for you. Ann Worthing leads you on a journey that will open your eyes to the infinite delights of painting with oils. Primary emphasis will be placed on process and planning for a diptych or triptych that portrays the effect of actions and time on an object.

Deepen your drawing knowledge and skills to produce effective and dramatic compositions. You’ll experiment with drawing media and techniques. You will also emphasize chiaroscuro, a method for applying value to a two-dimensional piece of artwork to create the illusion of a three-dimensional, solid form.

Every day as an artist, you visually explore everything around you from your unique perspective and with the purpose of discovering new drawing subjects. Learning to see as an artist is an integral aspect of learning to draw! Drawing with charcoal on paper, you’ll improve your observation skills and enhance artistic development through this concentration on interior and exterior light and spaces.

In this course you’ll build an understanding of how to add and control light in your digital photographs, growing your technical foundation for even greater artistic expression. Master composition and exposure techniques through a variety of lighting situations using everything from lights you can buy at your local hardware store for $5 up to professional studio lighting equipment.

Explore the possibilities of image making! Working with digital and analogue photographic tools, Adobe Photoshop, and iMovie video editing software, you’ll participate in the collection and documentation of what we leave behind in our urban spaces and landscapes. For your final project, you’ll consider the various options for printing, displaying and presenting your work.

In this course you will learn to think about photography in the most basic sense. With emphasis on making photograms (in many different ways) as well as pinhole photographs, you will get an amazing sense of how light works, how to compose an image, and most importantly, how a camera really works.

This class is all about building a strong portfolio of your photographs. You will photograph portraits, landscapes and still life, along with making darkroom prints to build into your growing portfolio. This course will build on your previously acquired photography skills but will also review the basics and introduce newcomers to the fundamentals of manual camera operation and 35 mm printing.

Throughout history, ceramic plates have been carved and decorated with writings and colorful scenic views. In this course you will create big plates on the wheel and with coils. You’ll learn the difference between glaze and under-glaze painting, the process for firing your piece, and the patience and dedication it takes to make a 3D piece of artwork.

Explore the expressive potential of the human figure. We’ll look at the historical and contemporary trends of figurative sculpture as we study proportion, expressive gesture, and pose. You’ll experiment with a variety of techniques to carve, sculpt, and finish both realistic and abstracted ceramic figures.

Learn the fundamentals of animation through a variety of drawing media, including charcoal, oil paint, and traditional cell-animation techniques.
