Assistant Teaching Artists (ATA) have a unique role in making Marwen’s courses successful. They provide valuable support to the teaching artist in a wide range of tasks: they assist with one-on-one instruction, demonstrations, materials and facilities management, critiques, and program evaluation. Marwen encourages good dialogue between teaching artists and teaching assistants. This relationship provides the teaching assistant with an opportunity to gain professional experience while contributing to the smooth operation of the course. For those who are interested in teaching but don’t have experience, being a teaching assistant is a great first step on the path to becoming a teaching artist at Marwen and beyond. Teaching assistants participate in faculty training and development and may receive additional mentorship, support, and access to resources specifically related to becoming a teaching artist. Marwen alumni are encouraged to apply to be teaching assistants.
