Marz believes that “…in order for an individual to care about making art, they must care about what it is they are making. I incorporate traditional and contemporary techniques centered on a big idea that prompts students to share their narratives, advocate for change, as well as think divergently and critically about their surroundings, and in the long run show them there is a lot to care about. This approach allows for students to not only reflect on their own experiences but the experiences of others and exercise how they use their agency in response to their environments. The separation between their lives in the art classroom and their lives outside of it does not exist; it is intertwined feeding their both experiences.”
